The Iraqi authorities have confirmed that the late Saddam Hussein’s half brother and a former judge will be hanged within the week.
He was sentenced to death together with Saddam Hussein last year.
The sentences will be executed despite appeals to the Iraqi government to stop the executions. The appeals come from the new UN boss Ban Ki-moon, among others.
Saddam was hanged alone on the 30th of December last year. His hanging has caused a lot of controversy due to the filming that has been distributed around the world and put in the internet as well.
The filming shows when the former dictator was dangling hanging by the rope, while being abused by some of those who were present in the hanging chambers.
The spokesman of the Iraqi government, Ali al-Dabbagh has confirmed that the death sentences of the 2 has already been signed and there is no turning back.
The two, including Saddam were judged with the killings of 148 Shia Muslims in the village of Dujail in 1982.
Dabbagh has said that despite the fact that the Iraqi government respects the UN’s point of view, the government has the responsibility to show respect to the victims who suffered under Saddam’s regime.
