Kenya govt, UN sign $634 million development pact

Nairobi (Kenya) The Kenyan government and the United Nations on Friday signed a 40 billion shillings (US$634 million) in Nairobi under a five-year framework development pact between 26 UN agencies in the country. Under the United Nations Development Assistance Framework, the UN agencies will support the government in addressing issues on governance, human rights, HIV/Aids, immigration, poverty reduction, gender equality and climatic change. The development pact was signed by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry of finance Joseph Kinyua and the Resident Coordinator of the UN System in Kenya Elizabeth Lwanga Lwanga said the five-year framework will complement the governments Economic Recovery Strategy, particularly development projects under Vision 2030 which seeks to make Kenya a middle income country by 2030.
