President Mwai Kibaki and prime minister-designate, Raila Odinga on Sunday evening failed to break a deadlock on the formation of a Grand Coalition Cabinet after the two leaders signed a power sharing agreement on February.
Both leaders left President Kibakis Harambee offices in Nairobi on Sunday evening where they arrived at 11am for a meeting but failed to break a raging stalemate on the cabinet structure.
The two leaders declined to address the waiting journalists, but a statement signed by the two said they had made substantial progress on the matter and that consultations will continue on Monday afternoon.
According to the statement both Kibaki and Odinga said that the “talks will be in the good interest of the country.”
A 40-member Grand Coalition Cabinet line-up was due to have been announced on Sunday afternoon.
Initially, the talks were planned for the two leaders but after a couple of hours, both govermment and Odingas Orange Democratic Movement party ( ODM) MPs joined in.
