Former US President Bill Clinton, who started his African tour in Ethiopia on Wednesday, has vowed to support Ethiopia\s alternative energy project.
He told host Prime Minister Meles Zenawi that he appreciated the countrys move to use alternative energy inputs to tackle the energy crisis.
Ethiopia some months ago launched a multimillion dollar alternative energy project aimed at minimising the country\s dependency on imported oil. The project aims at using sugarcane and Jatropha plant to generate alternative sources of energy.
During his discussions with Meles, Clinton expressed appreciation for the scheme and pledged his Bill Clinton Foundation\s support to the project.
The foundation is working in Ethiopia in the fight against malaria and HIV/Aids as well as the prevention of HIV/Aids among children through mothers.
