Posted by African Press International on October 7, 2008

The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, who begins a visit Sunday to Iraq announced in the Iraqi capital that Egypt was going to re-open its embassy in Baghdad.

Egyptian national television quoted Aboul Gheit as saying that he had inspected some locations in Baghdad to choose one of them to be the headquarters of the new Egyptian embassy.

Egypt closed its embassy in Iraq after militant groups had kidnapped and killed, on July 2005, Ehab al-Shareef the first Egyptian ambassador in Baghdad after the United States invasion in 2003.

An Egyptian security mission had visited Iraq late in August to explore the possibility of reopening the embassy.
