NAIROBI, – The youngest son of Lul Ali Hassan, a 38-year-old mother of 10, has hydrocephalus, a medical condition in which the head swells. Doctors at Benadir Children’s Hospital in Mogadishu say the boy requires special treatment known as shunting – inserting a shaft in his head to drain the fluid into his body – but this cannot be done in Somalia.

Hassan spoke to IRIN on 13 April about her sick son, Abdirahman.

“I had him in 2006 and he was perfect; I had no problem delivering him. He was a normal boy and did all the things normal boys do. Then everything changed three months ago when his head became bigger and bigger and he got weak and could not do anything.

“I was scared and worried about what was happening to him. I did not understand anything.

“I went to every doctor in town to seek help. I even went to religious scholars to pray for him. In over a month [of searching], I must have met every doctor in Mogadishu.

“Finally, a month and half ago, I came to Benadir hospital where I was told I may get help. We have been here ever since. The doctors told me his condition could have been caused by any number of things. They advised me they could not do anything for him here. They said he needs specialist treatment not available locally.

“We could barely afford to take him to doctors here. How are we going to take him outside the country?

“It breaks my heart to watch my son slowly disappear, and there is nothing I can do for him. I feel helpless and lost.

“Only God can help us now. I don’t know where else to turn to.”

Is God in Kenya?: Patriarch who claims to be God

Posted by African Press International on April 13, 2009

By Isaiah Lucheli

He stirs up controversy wherever he has tried to settle and he and his family are always on the run due to what he proclaims himself to be.

He believes he is the deity and the father of Jesus Christ. For this, he claims to have escaped countless attempts on his life.

Meet Jehovah Mungu Mwenye Enzi Wanyonyi, 92.

You might easily dismiss him for an insane man suffering from illusions but for the confidence he exudes when asserting that there is no other god but he.

He claims not to be human and came to the world just like his son did more than 2,000 years ago. He will, therefore, not die as humans do.

In Wanyonyis homestead at Chemororoch location, Uasin Gishu District, are five small grass thatched houses. In the middle of the compound stands a red flag and a table on which is placed a sword.

He boasts 15 wives and over 60 children, who labour on peoples farms in order to earn a living and feed the old man whose advanced age does not allow him to work.

The sword and the flag, also red, are a sign that the end of the world is nigh. The sword will be used to punish the evil people of the world, Wanyonyi declares.

When we drove into the compound children, young men and women milled around the car inquiring about our mission.

A woman I later learn is referred to as Roho Mtakatifu (holy spirit) asks me if I have brought anything for Jehovah before he can give me audience.

“Vile unavyo ona Jehovah amezeeka na ana mabibi wengi na vile vile watoto chungu nzima. Ukienda kuongea naye lazima utoe kitu mzuri,” Roho Mtakatifu says. (As you can see Jehovah is old and has many wives and children. You must give him a substantial gift after the interview.)

After complying with this condition a young man is sent to go and request god to allow me in his presence. The young man kneels before addressing god, who accepts my request.

I enter a small open hut where Jehovah is seated and after exchanging pleasantries, he demands to know the reason for my visit.

The Creator

god-and-wife
Wife Sarah Navai, also known as Roho Mtakatifu, kneels before her master.

He then asks if I have brought anything for Jehovah because he has a family to feed and is too old to travel long distances.

After explaining the purpose of my visit, I pose my questions: Has he been to heaven? When does he plan to end the world? Is he in touch with Jesus and how? Has he performed any miracles? Why is he living in abject poverty if he really is God?

Wanyonyi is clearly shocked that I have the audacity to ask him such questions.

“You humans will simply perish because of your foolishness,” he replies sternly. “How dare you ask your father if he knows his home or talks to his children?”

After the outburst he is silent for about a minute, then looks upwards and asks Jesus to pardon me for doubting the creator. There follows a tense moment and I fear the interview might come to an abrupt end.

His wives and children are equally appalled by my questions and stare at me as if I have lost my mind.

Jehovah sneezes and asks for a handkerchief and his crown, which are brought to him by one of his wives, who kneels before handing them over.

Stop the sun

“Go tell your people that one of these days, I will stop the sun at midday and it will not proceed to set for three months. You will all come running to me for forgiveness due to your lack of faith,” he tells me.

To my relief, he allows the interview to continue and says that we are no different from the many unbelievers who have tried to kill him to see if he truly is God.

“I cannot die,” he declares. “I came to conquer the world. This is just your flesh that I am wearing but Im the lord your god. Those who believe in me will not perish.”

It is 11am and as the interview progresses, his followers stream into the compound.

They bow and kneel before him as they exchange greetings. All refer to him as Jehovah. He has a special chair with Jehovah inscribed on it.

“If there was any other god superior to me, would he allow an impostor to live? He would have killed me with lightning for pretending. I would do the same to anyone pretending to be me, your god,” Wanyonyi explains.

Displaying his palms, Wanyonyi claims to have created the earth just as it is written in the book of Genesis.

He will end the world in the way as it is written in the holy book, he adds.

“I will turn the sun into fire, resurrect the dead and embark on judgement. I will create 12 doors in heaven through which the righteous will go while fire will be on earth where the sinners will burn for eternity,” says Wanyonyi.

He says he has no fixed abode because wherever he goes, unbelievers chase him away accusing him of blasphemy.

Weapons of death

“I only settled in Uasin Gishu about three years ago and almost immediately about 200 youths attacked me and wanted to slash me to see if blood would come out,” he says.

The youths, armed with machetes, demanded that he gets out of his house to face their weapons and death. But he remained indoors and they were afraid to break into the house to get him.

“I knew they would not kill me and did not go out to face them because I did not come to this world to die like my son Jesus,” he says.

Neighbours and his wives corroborate the story and confirm that indeed youths attacked his home one night.

According to them, the youths comprised of locals and others who had followed Wanyonyi from his previous home at Chwele, Bungoma District, from where he was chased away.

“Im certain they had been sent to kill me. They want to kill me but I am beyond death,” he says and breaks into prolonged laughter.

One of his grass-thatched houses is his throne. Due to his large family, food is cooked on about 20 fireplaces constructed outside.

Wanyonyi, or Jehovah as he insists on being called, was born in Kamukuywa in the larger Bungoma District, to parents he says are now in heaven.

“When I was born, my parents knew I was god and they took good care of me. I did not go to school. Instead I embarked on seeking followers,” he says.

He has four married sisters who, says, recognise him as their god rather than their brother.

Wanyonyi says all his wives and 75 children will accompany him to heaven so long as they do not sin.

“If they sin they die here on earth because I have sired them with humans,” he says.

Wanyonyi says he had intended to marry 400 wives but the thought of begetting many children who would succumb to this sinful world made him change his mind.

None of his wives or children has ever fallen sick, he claims. And because he is not human, he also does not fall ill.

“My only regret is that you humans have refused to take care of me,” he complains adding the warning that if people fail to do so in the next five years, they will regret it.

Save the world

And although he has harem, Wanyonyi says men will be judged harshly when the world comes to an end because they worship women.

“You worship women and that is why there is so much immorality in the world. Unless men change, they will be severely punished for idolising women,” he warns.

Wanyonyi cautions that churches will lead many people to hell because they are full of people who are hypocrites and liars. He does not go to church and says that since he is God, his followers instead come to his home for blessings, especially on Saturday, which he says is the Sabbath day.

“I have a sizeable number of followers and I do not mind that. I am not after offerings to make me rich. I have come to save the world and not to make money. That is why Im not rich as you would expect,” he says.

His parting words: “Do not let church leaders deceive you because they are led by the Satan who has also blocked yours eyes and minds to the fact that I am lord your God. Come to me instead.”

Obama trauma and the Bow Felt around the World – Hussein Obama bows to Muslim King of Saudi Arabia

Posted by African Press International on April 13, 2009

By Rev. Lainie Dowell

Kudos to the photographer who was alert enough to capture this photograph of Barack Obama and the bow felt around the world. Let’s see if this picture makes it into Obama’s photo album which, no doubt, will be filled with only carefully posed shots (oops! wrong word in Obama’s politically correct and highly charged over-the-top, authoritarian environment). But, as with his January 20, 2009, inauguration photo with Chief Justice Roberts administering to him the oath of office, Obama had another photo shoot (oops! There goes that politically incorrect word again). Obama had arranged to have the Chief Justice come to where he was and they struck a pose. Clean shot! Oh well, forget it.

Nevertheless, nothing will ever compare to this particular picture taken in London no matter how many other times Obama re-created a more acceptable pose taken side by side with the Saudi King showing them shaking hands and smiling for their politically correct photo (for posterity(?)). No problem.

Now, we’ve heard so many different accounts of that particular moment captured in time, but none so far have surpassed the explanation offered up by the White House. Their version, as strongly defended by Fox TV Cable News Bill O’Reilly (a “No Spin” guy who aspires to fiefdoms, himself), goes like this. Let’s take a listen.

Paraphrased Account — Ladies and gentlemen of TV Land, I want you to take a good look at the video version we are graciously sharing with you tonight and, oh by the way, just before you do that, let me first explain that the White House version of the story is that President Barack Obama did not bow! And, the White House told us that he merely got in position to shake the hand of a (somewhat auspiciously missing) shorter person than he was. O’Reilly went on to explain, Now, I saw that video. But, I was not there. So, I do not know if Obama bowed or not. But, you know we can always believe the White House account. So, case closed, because I am playing devil’s advocate. But anybody else who says Obama bowed is a liar!

Well, thank you Mr. O’Reilly! I mean, after all, the Obama people could have at least said that Obama had tripped going up to the Saudi King and he had reached out to keep Obama from falling. And that’s what made it appear that he had bowed to the King. (Destroy that photo, y’all!)

However, Plausible Deniability should at least be plausible before the denial. But, when the whole world is being told to not believe what their lying eyes and unsuspended sensibilities are showing them, then something is definitely wrong. And I don’t think it is with us!

Barack Obama’s first foray into the top levels of international governmental affairs as the leader of the free world, America, began with his attendance at the G20 2009 Summit held in London. The attendees were assembling for a “Family Photo.” And, when Obama greeted Saudi King Abdullah with a Hitleresque-like stomp-stance and his Howdy Doody wide grin, as he reached out his hand, notice it was one hand and not two hands, as Bob Gibbs (Obama’s Bagdad Bob) had said, it was right then that Obama showed us all we needed to know.

Obama further dramatized his over exuberance toward one of his political peers by proceeding to bow his head low in his direction, locking his knees in place, bending over and hunching his back just so and, without stopping, falling all the way over from his waist with his face down and poised parallel to the floor with his nose almost touching Saudi King Abdullah’s waist. At that moment, Obama had actually turned his back on America and he showed his behind to America and the world. And, what’s more, in so doing, he broke America’s heart one more time too many.

Moreover, as if that was not enough, after Americans and the whole world saw what Obama had done, his immediate response was to flee to his post-2008 Presidential Campaign mode of “Fight-the-Smears” mentality. His keepers and handlers fled to their respective stations and came out circling the wagons. They were being outright indignant (as if they were the ones who had been wronged and had the right to be outraged at that onerous action). Then, true to form, they became accusatory and immediately started dissembling and propagandizing without showing mercy towards anybody who had disavowed their claims that Obama had not bowed.

But, thanks be to God and the photographer, we did get to see that moment in living color and from start to finish. See the Family Photo taken of the G20 2009 Summit Attendees held in London, United Kingdom, showing the infamous Barack Obama bow caught on video, now on display at YouTube.

Despite having the realtime video on hand, Obama’s communication mouthpieces took to their podiums of propagandist, Alinskyesque reknown and, once again, tried to convince onlookers that it was their eyes that had deceived them and not the Obama Administration.

Instead of Obama owning up to what he had done, the master manipulator had compounded the situation. No doubt he had forgotten that Americans and their allies had torn down Saddam Hussein’s Bagdad Bob-induced kingdom in Iraq. So, what makes Barack Hussein (ObamaTrauma) believe that he is immune to suffering the same fate as Saddam when placed in the hands of an angry God and angry people who believed they had taken all they could from him with his unnecessary lies and oppressive agendas?

Americans and Capitalist Isolationism or A One World Socialist Globalism?

If keeping confidence with our God and ideals and not losing our sense of national purpose and individualism means letting all of this world go their way, then I for one say, let globalism sail on by. Did I hear you say that was naivete? Perhaps. But Israel is our guidepost. Her nation has faltered and fallen many times throughout her history under the full weight of oppressive regimes near and far, which have tried to destroy her; but Israel has continued to exist.

And, lest we forget, Israel’s God is our God who know God and love America. Our Judeo-Christian nation is more than a notion. Moreover, Israel and America have many graves piled up in the desert sands, and the precious blood of our own bodies has been violently strewn throughout the Middle East and the entire world on behalf of freedom, truth, liberty, justice and in the pursuit of that great reward, peace.

What Barack Hussein Obama’s Bow Really Felt Like

Barack Obama must have known that the world was watching. He is neither technologically nor politically ignorant. However, his people skills are sorely lacking, as evidenced by the company he has kept and continues to keep. And, if you don’t know the roster by now, then you have not been keeping up. So, it’s time to catch up to the ones who woke up and spoke out to warn against the inherent dangers which have been lurking in the weeds of deception, hashed out long ago in the opiate dens of evil smoked by the children of Satan’s seed.

In April 2009, when Obama publicly turned his back to America and bowed low before the Saudi King Abdullah, he did not bow alone. He stands in the position of our national leadership and Commander in Chief of our first line of defense, the military. And it is by his overt and covert actions that our men and women are in jeopardy while we are still at war against the terrorists which Obama fails to recognize as such. And, if for no other reason, Congress needs to unseat Obama as a danger to the wellbeing of America. More the pity, he does not even seem to realize it.

Yet, his detractors would have us to believe that former President George W. Bush had done as much. They love to refer to the moment during the King’s visit to the Bush Texas Ranch White House, when Bush led the King by the hand all the way up the walkway. But, this is what we call selective amnesia because, at that time, King Abdullah was ill and unsteady on his feet. And, within context, it became a matter of common courtesy that Bush had merely taken King Abdullah’s hand to help him while, at the same time, trying to remain diplomatic and respectful. Remember, at the time, both the news media and the DEMS had made fun of President Bush because of that picture of him and King Abdullah.

Nevertheless, when Obama bowed low to the same Saudi King before the eyes of the world, he did not bow alone. And, so, we watched horrified because it was during that time and on that day the whole Arab nation both near and far — through their mind’s eye — saw the manifestation of their long awaited vision in the form of their King Abdullah turning their entire nation’s back to America in the form of Barack Obama when he, in his bent over position with his bent mind had assumed the perfect position to kiss the Saudi King’s behind. (Now, really!!! That doesn’t take that much imagination does it?)

So, it does not really matter what the DEMS and anybody else have to say to try to make the comparison between Obama and Bush. We have seen Obama bow before their Islamic Muslim King with our own eyes. By doing so in that manner (and I will never believe it was by mistake), Obama surrendered to Islam and Sharia Law. And, despite those who may still refuse to believe it is so, we will feel the sting of Obama’s slap heard around the world for many days and years to come, even long after Obama has strutted his stuff and, at long last, is long gone off the world’s stage.

May Obama finally come to know the error of his ways in his old age. And may he never forget with each passing day that America is here to stay and shall remain all to the glory of God.

May God continue to bless America and keep safe to Himself a people who will never forget that because of Him, America is our safe haven on this side of the River.

Obama in the US and Odinga in Kenya will be a disaster: The two countries will get Sharia Laws

Posted by African Press International on April 13, 2009

To the Editor , This is my opinion

by Dianna, USA

I am great fear of Obama and Odinga it will not be good for the whole region if both “O”s are presidents.

I pray for the loss of souls in Kenya and surrounding countries… for under Odinga Sharia Law will become the law of the land and Christians will die

I want no one to die, for the sake of an election nor the election of an individual, but I fear that this will happen. Perhaps I am in fear of nothing, but my gut tells me something else.

I want nothing else but for everyone to live and prosper as they each embrace their own faith and cultures as is given to them at birth.

That all men are equal under God and law - and all live together as one.

==========opinion======Regarding Kenyas situation

Dont you understand Obama will do everything in his power to make sure Odinga will get elected president?

Dont you know it matters not to Obama how many more people will die in violence as long as he has Odinga in office

Now that Obama is president Odinga will have the funds to win….. and the muscle of the American thugs he sends over to insure clear passage of Odinga into the Presidential position.

We experienced this here in America. Had it not been for the illegal money, thuggery, and fraud committed on behalf of Obama – he clearly would not have been elected

———
Obama needs Odinga to advance his own agenda and it matters nothing to Obama if Christians are eliminated or enslaved under SHARIA LAW in Kenya

Obama is going to encourage the same shadow Sharia here in America as we already see that he is supportive and cooperativewith Muslim Brotherhood, CAIR, and encouraging SHARIA banking.

Obama is about to create a Sharia System along side of our own government.

People are beginning to understand this because Obama is trying to fill his advisory and cabinet with more Muslims.. They have a job search going on right now….

It is highly discriminatory -(Racist)-that the President create special heavily funded segment of government specific to a religion….. while we are all forced to erase every aspect of our Judeo- Christian heritage from public or heritage books or buildings, – even though our founding fathers encouraged moral life in America based upon the tenants of Godly faith.

That the President focus resources in this manner is discriminatory to all Americans which are excluded from resources that should be for all people and not specific to one or the other.
——————–
The president has abandoned the Black American with whom he pretended to identify with.
——————–
Obama is also pressured by the Muslim Brotherhood to change laws in favor of Islam which are in opposition to Christianity…..

Here is a perfect example.. children who bring bibles to school to worship together during lunchtime – are punished, sent home, and or suspended…

In some states it is prohibited for a student or teacher to expose a cross, on a chain, or any other representation of their faith

Muslim children, however, are permitted to pray carry the Quoran wear traditional clothing, head scarves, and openly practice their faith.

Some schools also prohibit pork on school grounds even if there is a handful of muslim children.

There are other faiths which do not eat pork, and either avoid it if served, or bring their own food to school…..

There never was a prohibition that pork products be outlawed in a school (bacon and eggs is a national breakfast - no longer permitted)

Now that there are restrictions, this puts all others at a disadvantage
due to the traditions of one faith.

We are a nation of tolerance, however policies created by the government
are turning people resentful to one another, where this never existed before.

~ Something terrible is happening.

We know it is by design that this creation of animosity is developing.
We are disturbed by this.!

We hapen to be Christian, and we have Muslim, Jewish and Shinto friends.
In all the many years that we have shared family time together we respected the traditions and practices of one anothers faith and cultures without thought.
Through friendship we share together in the joy and sorrows that life brings each human. It matters not what a persons faith is in this respect, because we are each related in Gods eyes.

America is a nation of many cultures and as an Italian is different than a Frenchman and a Japanes or a Kenyan we appreciate the diversity of customs that each bring to our lives.

It is very recently that there is something ugly happening and for the first time I see neighbors fighting, and separating, closiing off from one another, anger is brewing between people who for 30 yrs have shared their lives with one another.

Children no longer play with one another- In school there is an atmosphere that some are given priviledge and others must compromise-

This builds resentment with children, especially when they arepunished for what has always been -prior to all the restrictive regulations, that ultimately take the liberty from all others so as not to offend one group who is permitted their own freedom to do what all others can not.

This is dangerous and people are getting very angry that our government is perpetuating and inflicting this resentment and bigotry and racism which did not exist as a culture!

On 9/11 we saw the true nature of our America – we were all Americans. We all cried together, hugged one another and mourned together…. We were one, because that is America!

But it is turning into something other than this.

And not on the accord of the citizens, but by design of “another” force, aided by the media… a force that speaks “global peace” from one side of the mouth and from the other, in secrecy, says something else.

The government and the media are engineering chaos amongst neighbors in order to advance their agenda of civil unrest.

I love my neighbors as my own blood. Racism began to evolve through our recent election.

We as a nation are not racist. We are a nation of immigrants of all cultures, and without government intervention and activist agitators we would be a harmonious culture.

But then again if we were harmonious, there would be no cause for the multi billion dollar activist agitator industry and no need for the left wing radical party.

Many people in the current administration will not be happy until
our country is in flames – As it has been said by several of them >>> Never let a crisis go to waste.

To Kenyans: There is an old American Indian saying: “Beware of Man who speak with forked tongues”

SAVE YOURSELVES:
Be very cautious- Learn the truth – Do not be deceived as millions of Americans were, and now millions regret their choice of vote.

Obama magic charms Arab foes. (Iranian President not ready to be Obamarised and will instead continue to build the nuclear plant for his people)

Posted by African Press International on April 13, 2009

BEIRUT, Sunday

Barack Obama’s open-handed approach to the Middle East has won him praise from some Arab leaders viewed by previous US presidents as deadly enemies.

Obama is a flicker of hope amid the imperialist darkness, President Muammar Gaddafi told a rally of his supporters last week.

The Libyan leader, once a thorn in America’s side, was dubbed a mad dog by former President Ronald Reagan in the 1980s. He has mended ties with Washington since 2003.

He (Obama) speaks logically. Arrogance no longer exists in the American approach which was previously based on dictating to the rest of the world to meet its own conditions, President Gaddafi said.

President Obama has also earned conditional tributes from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Palestinian Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal and Lebanon’s Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah — all at times linked by Washington with terrorism.

See real change

Even Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has recognised that Mr Obama might offer something new. We speak with great respect for Obama. But we are realists. We want to see real change, he told Germany’s Der Spiegel magazine. We feel that Obama must now follow his words with actions.

The readiness of America’s adversaries to acknowledge that President Obama has brought a more sensitive verbal approach to the region is striking. In contrast, some traditional US allies such as Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak have kept tight-lipped.

Conservative Arab leaders may have misgivings about President Obama’s overtures to their own regional rivals, Iran and Syria, and may fear that he will in time renew US pressure for human rights and democratic reform in their own autocratic systems.

But for many in the Middle East, President Obama’s search for dialogue with Iran, his declaration in Turkey this month that America was not at war with Islam, his stress on a two-state solution for Israelis and Palestinians, and his plans to withdraw from Iraq constitute a reassuring change from the perceived belligerence and pro-Israeli bias of his predecessor George W. Bush. (Reuters)

Obama brother denied UK entry – (He is accused of approaching a group of young girls, including a 13 year-old, and allegedly tried to sexually assault one of them.)

In Summary

Samson Obama was refused a visa to enter the UK earlier this year after being accused of an alleged sex attack on a young girl in Britain according to Britain’s News of the World

LONDON, Sunday
US President Barack Obama’s half brother was refused a visa to enter the UK earlier this year after being accused of an alleged sex attack on a young girl in Britain according to Britain’s biggest selling Sunday newspaper.

According to Sunday’s News of the World’s lead story, Samson Obama tried to get into Britain on his way to Washington for the historic inauguration of President Obama in January.

But immigration officials at East Midlands Airport denied him entry because of allegations he was linked to an incident in the UK last November.

According to a UK-based criminal records database, Samson – who manages a mobile phone shop just outside Nairobi is reported to be the same man who was arrested by British police after he approached a group of young girls, including a 13 year-old, and allegedly tried to sexually assault one of them.

He then allegedly followed them into a cafe where he became aggressive and was asked to leave by the owner. Police were then called and Samson was arrested.

Following his arrest Samson allegedly supplied UK police officers with his mother’s address in Bracknell but gave them a false ID, claiming to be Henry Aloo, a genuine asylum seeker.

Samson’s mother, Kezia, 67, has lived in Bracknell for six years. She married the US President’s father Barack Obama Snr in Kenya when she was a teenager.

Following Samson’s arrest he was fingerprinted but not charged, then left the country. However, according to the News of the World, all his details were stored on the Home Office’s new database of prints and biometric details.

The UK-based newspaper said that the White House was informed of the incident and a Home Office source told the News of the World: This was obviously an extremely sensitive issue when it was flashed up by the database.

But the system is designed to flag up people who have come to the attention of the police in the UK and are then trying to return.

The UK border agency said that it would oppose the entry of individuals to the UK where we believe their presence is not conducive to the public good.

The News of the World said that it understood Samson – one of the President’s 11 half brothers and sisters by his father who had four partners – managed to travel on to Washington by boarding a connecting flight to the US from East Midlands.

President not to blame for my woes, says Karua – Politics of change in Kenya taking blame away from Kibaki

Posted by African Press International on April 13, 2009

By Patrick Mathangani

Gichugu MP Martha Karua has absolved President Kibaki of blame in her tribulations, saying the Head of State meant well but was misled.

“I do not think President Kibaki has a problem with anyone. It is just that some people have misled him,” Ms Karua, who resigned as Justice minister, last week said yesterday at Kianyaga Stadium in her constituency.

Speaker after speaker at the rally said she was the best suited to succeed Kibaki in 2012.

Karua announced she would hold countrywide rallies to seek the peoples mandate and support for her presidential bid.

She said she would mobilise the public against corruption, which she claimed had taken root in the coalition Government.

However, she insisted she had no grudge with anyone and would continue supporting the Governments good policies.

Reforms in Judiciary

Karua, who quit the Cabinet on grounds that she was frustrated, vowed her campaign would be pegged on reforms, especially in the Judiciary and the police force.

She said court cases took long, and claimed that the police killed suspects without trial. “Let the police not become judges. If we allow them, they will kill all our children,” she said.

Karua told the well-attended rally that she would push for land redistribution, resettlement of IDPs and the fight against corruption.

She claimed money set aside for resettling IDPs had been embezzled.

She said some of those opposed to reforms did not want the poor given land.

“Some people have land the size of entire provinces. They tremble whenever they think of a new constitution because they think all the land is theirs,” she said.

The rally was attended by leaders from Central, Nairobi and Rift Valley provinces.

Those who spoke were Tetu MP FT Nyammo and his Garsen counterpart Danson Mungatana, six former MPs, councillors and Narc-Kenya branch officials. Before the rally, Karua toured the district in a style that had all the hallmarks of a presidential campaign.

Her entourage stopped at several trading centres in Kirinyaga District, where she addressed cheerful supporters.

Mr Mungatana took on Agriculture Minister William Ruto, whom he told to quit over the maize scandal.

He said Narc-Kenyas rallies would push for resignation of Cabinet ministers mentioned in corruption. He claimed Government functionaries were luring MPs to their side.

Parties fight to succeed Karua – The struggle to get the powerful justice ministry erupts in Kenya

Posted by African Press International on April 13, 2009

President ‘s PNU is facing a dilemma as its affiliates parties battle it out over who will take over the powerful Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs ministry following the resignation of Ms Martha Karua.

Two powerful groups have emerged throwing spanners into plans by Kibaki to replace the Gichugu MP. The bare-knuckled rivalry is alleged to have scuttled a planned mini-Cabinet reshuffle said to have been scheduled for today (Monday).

One clique, composed mainly of leaders from Kibaki’s central Kenya backyard, is allied to Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Uhuru Kenya and Internal Security Minister George Saitoti, while the other is allied to Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka.

A Cabinet minister who did not want to be named for fear of jeopardising his political position said: “The three hope to succeed Kibaki in 2012. Kalonzo and Uhuru are frontrunners and each wants their person to hold the powerful Justice ministry. The goings on are murkier than Kenyans think.”

Whereas Uhuru wants the position retained by a person from Central Province, probably Assistant Minister Njeru Githae or Energy Minister Kiraitu Murungi, Kalonzo’s ODM-Kenya party has been lobbying for Nairobi Metropolitan Development Minister Mutula Kilonzo.

Kiraitu, who held the docket before his resignation in 2006, is understood to be staking claim to his old ministry, although no group has coalesced to offer substantive support.

PNU affiliates ODM-Kenya, Narc-Kenya, Kanu and other parties at the Easter weekend upped lobbying for the seat, as the raging battle threatened to rip apart the loosely knit unity of Kibaki’s close allies.

A group of MPs from the Mt Kenya region is reported to have met on Saturday and resolved to insist on retaining the powerful portfolio.

“People of central Kenya voted for Kibaki to a man, while Mutula was busy campaigning for another candidate. We should, therefore, not be given a ministry of little value while he (Mutula) gets the powerful position,” said an MP who attended the meeting.

Kabete MP Lewis Nguyai said Kiambu District gave Kibaki nearly 400,000 votes, but to date remains the only area without a minister.

“We now hope the President will consider Kiambu. He should not take us for granted,” Mr Nguyai said without specifying whom he supports for the position.

According to Nguyai, leaders from Mt Kenya want Local Government assistant minister Njeru Githae, elevated to the Justice docket.

Killing two birds

“This will kill two birds with one stone. We retain the powerful position and also ameliorate the Kirinyaga people and cut Karua down to size before she takes the vote-rich Kirinyaga District by storm,” said Nguyai who is thought to be allied to Uhuru.

Uhuru is said to be fronting this to cut Kalonzo’s emerging influence in the PNU coalition.

Contacted, Githae spoke briefly: “That is mere speculation. Let’s leave it to the President. He is the only person mandated by the Constitution to appoint a minister.”

Tellingly, Githae, who is in Karua’s Narc-Kenya, declined to follow his chairperson and Secretary-General Danson Mungatana into resigning.

He said he would remain in Government and push for reforms from within.

Mutula declined to comment, saying he did not wish to be drawn into the issue, and likewise the VP refused to be drawn into the matter.

But Agriculture Assistant Minister Kareke Mbiuki seemed to read from a script different from his colleagues in the Mt Kenya region and backed Mutula, whom he said was the most suitable minister to replace Karua.

“Mutula is a member of the National Dialogue committee which negotiated the National Accord and understands the reforms Kenyans and Chief Mediator Kofi Annan want,” said Mr Mbiuki.

VP’s machinations

Mutula’s chances are boosted by the fact that constant bickering over the Accord necessitates a steady voice to defend PNU, a role that Karua undertook astutely for long.

Mbiuki, however, said Githae, who is from Kirinyaga, should be elevated to a full minister in charge of Nairobi Metropolitan.

“Having served as Assistant Minister for Local Government, Githae’s job is well cut out if he replaced Mutula at the Nairobi Metropolitan ministry,” he said. But an MP from Central who spoke on condition of anonymity after The Standard persistently called him to find out the goings on in PNU said: “The truth is that many leaders from this region (Central) are not very comfortable with the VP’s machinations and giving his party this powerful ministry would be suicidal for our plans for the Kibaki succession.”

He said Githae a two-term legislator and a lawyer by training and who once held the position of Assistant Minister for Justice was fit for the job.

“Githae will manage the Justice ministry contrary to claims that he is an amateur,” said the MP.
