Kenya: The Kalenjins are not stupid: Can ngege consummate an alliance?
Posted by African Press International on July 30, 2009
When Kibaki visited Bondo and ate ngege with Raila, some Luo MPs said,”hallelujah hosanna we need Kalenjin vote no more!” These MPs believe arrival of president to dala is the beginning of true alliance between Luos and Kikuyus and therefore Kalenjins are of no need any more.
Long ago Oginga Odinga thought the same way. You and I know the outcome.
It’s very clear from Luo MPs attack of Ruto that forty years since Jaramogi was deceived these guys have never learned who is their true friend. Kalenjins led by Ruto voted for Raila almost to the last voter. But Raila now thinks he can abandon them for Kibaki and his people. He thinks this time round Kibaki is genuine. That Kibaki will rally his people to vote for Raila. In fact some Luo MPs dared Ruto to leave ODM. Now that stinks! Kalenjins are united behind their leaders and ready to leave ODM when it dies and stinks.
For now ODM is our party. We are its founders.Any Luo MP who thinks otherwise should leave it instead! Wagging the tail to an extend of daring our leaders to leave ODM because Raila ate ngege with Kibaki is parochial and myopic. This is one reason Kikuyus often get the best of Luos politically.
Kalenjin vote is big and desirable.Whoever gets it is advantaged. Luo MPs should know this fact as they exorcise the old demons that made them enter into alliances that never worked for them. Political marriage between Luos and Kalenjins took more than a meal of ngege to consummate yet it can take only Mau to desolve it.
Raila should read mene mene tekel on the wall!
