Former Ivorian president Laurent Gbagbo fights charges in the Hague as his former aide back home is arrested by orders of president Quattara

Posted by African Press International on August 19, 2012

Reports reaching API confirm that the aide, who is also an official of Gbagbo’s party was whisked away today.

Earlier in the day, men dressed as security stormed the party headquarters of Gbagbo’s party taking away documents.

This should raise concern at the ICC. Gbagbo’s defence are arguing that they have documents to prove that president Quattara’s men are committing attrocities.

There is a possibility now that Quattara men are destroying documents that they think may connect them to massacres still taking place, even after Gbagbo’s arrest.

Confirmation of charges Hearing against Gbagbo is a very interesting one. He was arrested and transported by The Frenchmen. The defence argue this is illegal.
There is no law for such, where a head of state of another country can despatch soldiers to go and arrest another country’s leader.

This loophole may favour Gbagbo, even if the Frenchmen are trying to say the mission was to assist the UN who was seen to be weak on the ground.

Posted by African Press International on August 19, 2012

All the norwegian party leaders debated the report in search of a blame carot in an effort to get the prime minister to resign.

Instead things turned differently. The politicians favouring the PM ensured heat was turned against the Top Cop Mr Mealand. The supporters of the PM, when asked by the press if they had confidence in him, they declined to give answers.

The justice ninister who is police director’s boss refused to say what she thinks of the police chief.

On realising that no support was fortcoming to safe him he resigned.

It seemed as if the justice minister was waiting and hoping for it to happen because she wasted no time appointeing a new police director. The new man is said to be a very experienced policeman. He comes from PST, – this the Nowegian National Security – an equivalent to the British MI5.

The report released monday criticised the police very strongly saying their laxity enabled terrorist Breivik to kill more youth last year on the 22nd of july 2011.
