All the norwegian party leaders debated the report in search of a blame carot in an effort to get the prime minister to resign.
Instead things turned differently. The politicians favouring the PM ensured heat was turned against the Top Cop Mr Mealand. The supporters of the PM, when asked by the press if they had confidence in him, they declined to give answers.
The justice ninister who is police director’s boss refused to say what she thinks of the police chief.
On realising that no support was fortcoming to safe him he resigned.
It seemed as if the justice minister was waiting and hoping for it to happen because she wasted no time appointeing a new police director. The new man is said to be a very experienced policeman. He comes from PST, – this the Nowegian National Security – an equivalent to the British MI5.
The report released monday criticised the police very strongly saying their laxity enabled terrorist Breivik to kill more youth last year on the 22nd of july 2011.
