Martin Shikuku dies in Nairobi due to Cancer

Martin Shikuku has died in Nairobi. He was undergoing cancer treatment at the time of his death at the Texas Cancer Ventre in Nairobi’s Hurlingham.
Shikuku was the former Butere MP in Western Province of Kenya.
During his time in Parliament Shikuku was known as the ‘peoples’ watchman because he fought vigorously for the rights of all ordinary Kenyans.
While mourning Shikuku, President Kibaki has described him as a “seasoned politician who was well versed in parliamentary procedures” and “very sensitive to the plight of the common mwananchi”.
According to Hon Martha Karua MP for Gichugu, “Hon Shikuku, popularly known as ‘the Peoples’ Watchman’, was a true crusader for the downtrodden. He was a man who believed in, practiced and lived democracy; a patriot who devoted his life to serving Kenyans,”.
During the negotiations for Kenya’s independence, Shikuku was one of the leaders to represent Kenya at the Lancaster House , UK.
