Kenya: Man charged with stealing precious stones

A man was today charged before a Nyeri court over theft of Precious stones; Rubi. Simon Gatwai Gakinya 24, appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Shadrack Okato and was accused of stealing the precious stones last month before fleeing to Nairobi.
The court heard that on December 25 last year at Nyeri Township with others not before court, stole 50 Kilogrammes of Rubi Precious stones valued at Ksh.10Million belonging to David Kimani Ndung’u.
Kimani is a licensed gem stones dealer and the accused is his former employee. Allegedly he spent a night at his former boss residence claiming that he had gone to collect his belongings.
He, however denied the charges and was released on a ksh. 1Million bond and a surety of similar amount. The case hearing was set to continue on February 11 2013.
